The first school of applied economics among China’s “Double-First Class” initiative Universities

SAE is formed in 2019 .The history of the SAE could be traced back to 1950, when the newly-formed RUC set-up the Department of Economic Planning and Research Division of Economic Geography. Since the early days of the People’s Republic, RUC has thus been an important national center for teaching and research of applied economics. In turn, RUC has subsequently earned a strong reputation in applied economics as assessments conducted by the Chinese Ministry of Education (2004, 2008, and 2012 ) consistently ranked the university top in the teaching and research of applied economics across the country.

The SAE currently has a diverse group of 54 faculty members, where over half are internationals and many more are thought leaders in their respective areas.

The research focus areas of SAE are largely spread across socially- and economically-relevant topics such as energy market and policy, climate change, regional economics, poverty reduction, and input-output analysis . Following her predecessors, the SAE aims to continue providing important and timely research in applied economics, and train future generations of policy-makers.
