主讲人简介：

Bart Los is a professor in economics at the University of Groningen. He obtained his PhD from the University of Twente in 1999. Much of his recent research deals with the economic consequences (for countries and regions therein) of the proliferation of global value chains. He also focused on quantifying the risks involved with Brexit. His research was published in journals like American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Economic Policy, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Regional Science and IMF Economic Review. Bart Los was a coordinator of the World Input-Output Database (WIOD) project, editor of Economic Systems Research and Vice-President of the International Input-Output Association.

Title:

The Construction of Global Input-Output Tables in Constant Prices and their Use in the Analysis of Changes in the Global Trade Elasticity

Abstract:

With the rise of protectionism, the world trade to world GDP ratio is an indicator that attracts a lot of interest. In this presentation, we present an accounting framework that can be used to analyze the drivers of changes in the indicator. Was the post-crisis slowdown due to reshoring of activities in value chains? Or was it mainly due to changes in the composition of final demand? Answering questions like these requires the use of global input-output tables in constant prices. The methods used to construct such tables have been constructed for the World Input-Output Database will be explained.
